'His Past Performances Shouldn't be Ignored': Ex-Players and Fans Express Discontent With Rinku Singh's Exclusion in T20 WC Squad

While the buzz is certainly around India’s T20 World Cup squad, one name that isn’t in the 15-man squad is the left-hander, Rinku Singh. He has been one of the best finishers for the national team and seemed to have solidified his spot. But he now finds himself along with the reserve squad which shocked the Indian cricketing fraternity.

Since making his international debut in August 2023, the batter has gone on to establish an immense record in the shortest format. In the 15 matches played, he has scored 356 runs at an average of 89 and a very decent strike rate of 176.23.

He also performed well in the recent tour of South Africa and the T20I series against Afghanistan scoring an unbeaten 68 and 69 respectively. However, in IPL 2024, he has not been at his best scoring only 123 runs in the nine games he has played so far.

The former Indian cricketer, Irfan Pathan reckons that Rinku’s performances in national colours are something that should not have been ignored and the selectors should have backed him to play in the marquee tournament.

Certainly, Rinku’s performances with the bat have warranted the left-hander being regarded as one of the best finishers the country has at the moment. This fan is not happy with the call to demote Rinku to the reserves.

The harsh call to put Rinku in the reserves is unfair according to this fan. Having proven himself to deliver on the international stage, the fan remains confused as to why he has not been picked for the T20 World Cup squad.
