'I Can Never Be Courageous, If I Don't Feel Fear': MS Dhoni Opens Up on the Role Fear Played in His Career
Dhoni even spoke on how the image of him being perceived as 'fearless' was not fair nor true, as he believed that it was the fear that led to him developing into the player he became.

A fearless leader, built for the big moments, Captain Cool: all are phrases we associate the legendary MS Dhoni with. But, to everyone’s surprise, the talisman CSK keeper and ex-captain of the Indian team thinks differently. In fact, Dhoni believes that fear made him the person and the player he is now.

In a recent video released by the Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni talked about the importance of fear in one’s career and life, and the irreplaceably pivotal role that fear plays in moulding players into their best selves.

“Fear is very important. You need to have that fear, if I don’t have fear, I can never be brave. I can never be courageous, you know. So, I always felt that fear is important and that the pressure is important because that helps me make the right decision, keeping everything in mind,” Dhoni is heard stating in the video.

Dhoni even spoke on how the image of him being perceived as ‘fearless’ was not fair nor true, as he believed that it was the fear that led to him developing into the player he became.

“A lot of people talk about me being fearless. If you are fearless, you will be reckless. Because I don’t have fear, I won’t respect the normal thing. So, it hardly matters when I am walking down the road, when I am walking on the rope, you know. I felt all these things are important for the development of an individual.”

A five-time winner of the IPL as skipper of CSK, Dhoni was in the unfortunate end of a crushing defeat in their last encounter of the group stages this season where, in a do-or-die playoff decider, CSK fell to their heated Kaveri rivals RCB.

CSK put up a valiant fight after a horror start, chasing a formidable target of 219, and it was MS Dhoni who injected a jolt of hope for the CSK faithful once again with his blistering cameo. But, his quickfire knock of 25 runs off just 13 balls was too little too less.

Since CSK’s exit, there has been a lot of speculation about the ongoing season being the 42-year-old’s final campaign, with the question of Dhoni’s future weighing heavily on every fans’ mind.

Now, it is all up to the man, the myth, the legend MS Dhoni himself to answer the same question and no one else.
