'I Have Scored Some Runs Now': Jasprit Bumrah's Message To Bat Sponsors Goes Viral
Bumrah, who scored 7 runs from nine balls for India in the first innings of the ongoing Test against Bangladesh, played with a bat that had no sponsor sticker on it.

Jasprit Bumrah is back in action for India with a bang. The right-arm pacer, who last played in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa in Barbados on June 29, picked up four wickets for 50 runs against Bangladesh on Friday (September 20) to finish as the leading wicket-taker for the Rohit Sharma-led side in the first innings of the ongoing first Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. But before making a big impact with the bowl, Bumrah came out to bat for India in the No. 10 position in the morning session of the 2nd day’s play, and during his stay at the crease, he scored seven runs (from nine balls) with the help of one boundary.

He was the last Indian batter to get out in the first inning. Bumrah, who has 278 runs to his name in 37 Tests played so far, played with a bat that had no sponsor sticker, and it caught everyone’s attention. After the end of the day’s play, Bumrah, in his own style, sends a message to the bat sponsors by saying that he has scored some runs now and is eyeing a bat deal now.

“I have scored some runs now. If anyone is looking, they know how to contact me,” Bumrah said in a message to bat sponsors.

Most wickets in 2024

Bumrah, who missed the 2023 WTC final against Australia last year due to a back injury, picked up the first wicket for India in the second innings as well. On the second ball of the 17th over, he dismissed Bangladesh opener Zakir Hasan, who was caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal after making 33 runs from 47 balls.

The first wicket in the second innings helped Bumrah take his tally of wickets to 47 in 14 matches played so far in 2024, which is the most by any bowler. The 30-year-old Ahmedabad-based cricketer has dismissed 15 batters in 8 T20Is and 32 batters in six Tests played so far this year.

He is second on the list of bowlers with most wickets in Test matches played in 2024. England’s Gus Atkinson sits in the No. 1 position with 34 wickets in six Tests.
