'It's Not Orange Cap That Wins You Titles...': Ambati Rayudu Takes Sly Dig at Virat Kohli and RCB

After the Kolkata Knight Riders were crowned as champions of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League, former Indian international and now pundit Ambati Rayudu seemed to take a cheeky dig at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru icon Virat Kohli during the post-match festivities.

While speaking to Star Sports, Rayudu touched upon what it takes to win the big prize.

He believes that rather than the individual contributions like Virat Kohli has done by winning the Orange Cap, it is the collective effort that lead to the title.

“…Over the years, it is not the orange cap that wins you the titles but contributions like 300 runs each or 400 runs each,” Rayudu said.

Kohli and RCB sneaked their way into the playoffs after recovering from six defeats in a row but were beaten by the Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator.

RCB as a franchise has had the likes of Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Mitchell Starc , Shane Watson among others in their squads but the IPL title remains elusive.

RCB’s auction strategy has also been questionable as they splashed the cash on someone like Alzarri Joseph only to use him sparingly through the start of the season.

Another big miss has been Glenn Maxwell who failed to turn up this season. Despite being given a break mid-way through the tournament, the batting star has failed to live up to expectations and could see himself being released for next year’s mega auctions.

While Kohli has been a consistent performer for the side and Rajat Patidar’s late return to form along with Yash Dayal turning up in the big moments, RCB’s season as a collective has largely been a hit or miss.
