Before meeting in the final, MI and CSK locked horns in the first qualifier where the Mumbai-based franchise registered a six-wicket win to confirm their berth in the summit clash. Meanwhile, CSK punched their ticket to the final after beating Delhi Capitals in the second Qualifier.
The IPL 2019 final turned out to be a low-scoring affair. Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first.
The plan backfired as MI lost two wickets scoring 45 runs. They lost the important wickets of Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma. Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav made some efforts to revive the innings but failed to survive long.

After Kishan returned to the pavilion, MI were reeling at 5/101.
That is when Kieron Pollard took charge and struck a blistering knock of 41 off 25 balls. Powered by his powered-packed knock, Mumbai Indians set a comprehensive target of 150.
Though it looked like an easy chase for Chennai Super Kings, the Rohit Sharma-led side was in no mood to give up early.
The opening pair of Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson produced a strong start for Chennai Super Kings. After Du Plessis was dismissed for 26 in the fourth over, Watson fell short of support.
The next three batters including captain MS Dhoni returned with a single-digit score. Watson, on the other hand, played a composed 80-run knock which comprised eight boundaries and four sixes.
Watson remained unbeaten till the final over when CSK needed nine runs to seal the victory. Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma kept his faith in Lasith Malinga.
Chennai Super Kings found themselves in trouble when Shane Watson got run out on the fourth ball of the final over. They required two runs off the last ball, with Shardul Thakur on strike. Malinga bowled a slower yorker to Thakur, who tried to play it through the leg side but completely misjudged the line.
The ball hit his pads and Malinga appealed for LBW and the umpire adjudged Shardul out. With this, Mumbai Indians secured a nail-biting victory in the IPL 2019 final.
