One Internal Warm-up Game to be India's Prep for Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024; Ruturaj Gaikwad Likely to Lead India A: Report
The India A side could extend their stay in Australia to help the senior team prepare for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 in Australia.

During Team India’s tour of Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Indian unit will be playing only one warm-up game ahead of the five-match Test series starting in November. Interestingly the game will be an internal contest, to be played against India A.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, the A-team will be in Australia a few weeks prior for a two-match series and will extend their stay to help the senior team get some practice under Australian conditions with a three-day from November 15 to 17 at the WACA, Perth, which will also host the first Test match of the series.

The report also suggests that the A-team would likely be captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad with some of the regulars in the Test format in the squad.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to announce the squad that will be part of the India A side, but the report suggests that it could be announced within a week.

The report also mentioned that as per a Cricket Australia (CA) official, there was no warm-up game scheduled between India and Australia as the practice has gone out of fashion in recent times. The official also revealed that Australia did not have any warm-up games during their tour of India in 2023.

“It’s (an) internal (match), so up to India how they use the game. Maybe some of the Test players may play in the India A games but again up to the BCCI. Not many countries seem to play warm-up games these days. Australia didn’t play any before the last series in India,” a CA official said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Currently, the Indian team are gearing up for a three-match Test series against New Zealand which will begin on October 16 with Bengaluru playing host for the opening game.

The first Test will be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This would be followed by the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune playing host for the second game beginning on October 24 and finally the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai for the final match of the series.
