'Part and Parcel of the Game': Shubman Gill on Dealing with Outside Noise After Scoring a Brilliant Century
Shubman Gill focused on his preparations and the credited the support he received from the captain and the coaches for his century against England in the second Test.

Ahead of the second innings of the second Test at Hyderabad, Shubman Gill was under pressure after not having big scores since his demotion down to number three in the batting order. But he managed to silence the critics as he produced a fine century against England to extend their lead in the match.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Gill commented on dealing with the fame and criticism as a young star. He said,” Part and parcel of the game. If you do well people will laud you and if you don’t there will be (criticism).”

The 24-year-old emphasised the importance of being aware of what needs to be done when batting. He added, “It is important to know what you are doing to do in the middle. I am someone who likes to play as per the situation and then take chances and play percentage cricket.”

The youngster was under pressure after not having a big score since he moved down to bat at number three which gave way to Yashasvi Jaiswal to solidify his position as the opening batter. Gill however was focused on his preparation and credited the support he received from the skipper Rohit Sharma and the coaches, Rahul Dravid and Vikram Rathore. “I was training at the far nets because that was the only one available. The support I have got from Rohit bhai, Rahul sir and Vikram sir as well they are the ones who have always kept me motivated. They have believed in me when that is the case you are always going to be at the top of your game.”

It was Shubman Gill’s century that put India in the hunt to be in contention for a victory in the second Test. Along with him, a valiant knock by Axar Patel who was dismissed on 45 helped India post a target of 399 for England to chase.

However, England will be optimistic and will be aiming to go for the win as they did in the previous Test and a strong batting performance can help them secure the lead in the Test series. India on the other hand will have to rely on their bowlers to get the job done as they will be aiming to level the series.
