Speaking ahead of the India vs Pakistan match-up that is set to take place in New York for the T20 World Cup 2024, the former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has tipped some of the key battles to look out for in the marquee contest.
Yuvraj suggested that the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma against Pakistan’s experienced Mohammad Amir will be a key contest to look out for with the veteran pacer, having a fairly decent record against the Indian skipper. So far, the quick bowler has dismissed Rohit twice and conceded just one run in seven balls faced so far in the shortest format.
Another key contest that Yuvraj highlighted was that between Virat Kohli and Shaheen Afridi. The pacer has gotten the former Indian skipper thrice but Kohli has also been able to score fairly quickly with a strike-rate of over 150 having scored 34 runs against the pacer.
In a video released by the ICC, Yuvraj, who played a pivotal role in India’s 2007 T20 World Cup victory, shared his excitement and analysis ahead of the match.

“I think we’re all moved by the emotion of the India-Pakistan game because we have a lot of history. Pakistan have got some fiery bowlers. I think we got a stronger batting side. I’m looking at Mohammad Amir vs Rohit because he likes to get the ball full and then Shaheen Afridi against Virat. I think these are going to be some big matchups,” said Yuvraj.
The T20 World Cup winner stated that the match will eventually come down to how each side can adapt to the given conditions and the situations present. Rather than being emotional, the side which keeps their cool will come out on top.
“But at the end of the day, you must use your mind. You have to play according to the situation and I feel the team which plays according to the situation and keeps the emotion back will win this game,” Yuvraj concluded.

India already has their first win of the tournament while Pakistan are yet to pick up their first win after a crushing loss against the USA in their opening game. The match that is set to take place in New York will certainly prove to be a riveting clash between two stellar sides.
