Star Indian pacer Umran Malik, who last played for India on July 29, 2023, against the West Indies during an ODI match in Bridgetown, is all set to miss the first phase of the Ranji Trophy. The 2024-25 edition of Ranji Trophy is set to start on October 11. According to reports, the 24-year-old pacer, who made India debut in June 2022 after making headlines for his express pace in IPL 2022, will miss the first phase due to a hip injury.

He is likely to remain out of action for at least six weeks. Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) is yet to name a replacement for him in the Ranji Trophy squad.

Umran, who has played 12 First-Class and 14 List A matches so far, last played a competitive match on March 27, 2024, for SRH in IPL 2024 against Mumbai Indians and conceded 15 runs in one over. He didn’t get a chance to play in any other match for the Pat Cummins-led side in the entire season.

Jammu & Kashmir is part of Elite Group A in Ranji Trophy 2024-25 and will open its campaign on October 11 against Maharashtra in the match, which is scheduled to take place at Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar. J&K will face Odisha in the second match and Services in the third again at Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium.

Jammu & Kashmir’s next four Elite Group A matches are against Meghalaya, Tripura, defending champions Mumbai, and Baroda.
