Seventeen-year-old Riya Gupta from Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh is a self-taught and passionate artist who has gained acclaim for her detailed paintings of notable figures. Balancing her studies, she’s earned around Rs 5,000 from commissions, aiming to build a career in art after her exams.

At the tender age of six, Riya’s fascination with art began with simple pencil sketches. Even at a young age, her natural ability was evident, and over the years, her skills have blossomed. Speaking with News18, Riya shared that painting has always been a cherished hobby for her as she balances her academic commitments with her artistic pursuits.

Remarkably, Riya has not received formal training in art. Her prowess has developed through sheer passion and practice. Her portfolio includes intricate paintings of prominent figures, gods and goddesses, and influential leaders.

Her artwork has not only won numerous awards but has also attracted significant attention from local and regional clients. Currently preparing for her Class 12 examinations, Riya has ambitious plans to turn her artistic talent into a full-fledged career.

She has been refining her craft through online resources and has already made notable contributions, including a portrait of the district’s DM, which was presented with much admiration.

“I am currently pursuing Class 12 studies. I am self taught and recently took help from some online classes. I made potraits of several ministers and I have presented them. I have participated at Mathurvaish, a national level art competition, and I came first at the national level. I aspire to become an artist. My family of five supports me completely,” she said.

Riya’s artistic endeavors are also proving financially rewarding. Over the past two years, she has received numerous commissions and charges between Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 per painting.

To date, she has earned approximately Rs 5,000 from her work. Her soaring reputation and consistent demand for her paintings underscore the bright future that lies ahead for this young artist.
