WhatsApp Will Now Let You Save Contacts Without Adding To Your Phone: Why This Is Big
WhatsApp lets you make video calls, send voice notes and soon it will let you add contacts directly to the app for all users.

What if we tell you that soon you can add contacts directly to WhatsApp and save them across the linked devices? Well, it is happening as we speak today, as confirmed by the Meta-owned messaging app in a post.

That’s not all, WhatsApp will also let you manage contacts from all devices linked to one account. “Soon, you’ll be able to add and manage contacts from the comfort of your keyboard on WhatsApp Web and Windows – and eventually other linked devices,” as WhatsApp explains in a post here.

WhatsApp Now Your Default Phonebook App?

WhatsApp has long been the default calling and messaging app for smartphone users, so much that traditional SMSs are mostly reserved for OTPs and bank messages. For the longest time, people have needed to save a contact to their phone which then converts into a WhatsApp contact, not anymore.

Now, WhatsApp will allow you to save contacts exclusively on the app and give you the option to sync the contact to the phone if you wish to. “Contacts you save to WhatsApp will be restored in case you ever lose your phone or change devices,” the post adds.

The messaging app is keeping the contact secured behind advanced encrypted keys which will only work through the corresponding devices and nobody else can access it, just like your chats.

And the final major upgrade coming to WhatsApp users for their privacy is to save contacts by username which keeps their mobile number safer so that it doesn’t fall into anyone’s hand. “Usernames on WhatsApp will add an extra degree of privacy so that you don’t need to share your phone number when messaging someone,” WhatsApp points out.

The platform also mentioned that all these features will be gradually rolling out over the coming weeks and months for users.
