The controversy over the NEET UG 2024 examination is deepening day by day. Alakh Pandey, the CEO of Physics Wallah, has reportedly filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court in this regard. He has sought a probe into allegations of discrepancies in the medical entrance test. He also urged the court to order a re-examination.
Pandey has questioned the system of grace marks by the National Testing Agency. He said that the National Testing Agency gave grace marks to more than 1500 students after the exam without giving any information in advance. In such a situation, students who were able to get 630 or 640 marks in the mock test got full 720 marks. Along with this, he has also raised questions on the efficiency of conducting the exam for the agency.
Taking to X, he wrote, “I believe in the court and our judiciary system. Our students will get justice.”
Going to the Hon’ble Supreme Court with our advocate @jsaideepak, today at 10:30 am, to get our petition against NTA mentioned.I believe in the court and our judiciary system. Our students will get justice.#SupremeCourt @NTA_Exams #NEET— Alakh Pandey (PhysicsWallah) (@PhysicswallahAP) June 11, 2024
In a different plea filed about the alleged paper leak and irregularities in the exam, a vacation bench of Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Justice Vikram Nath said that post-exam counselling will not be discontinued while issuing a notice to the agency.
“Furthermore, recognising the impending commencement of the counselling process for the allocation of medical seats based on the contentious NEET rankings, Mr Pandey and Mr (J Sai) Deepak beseeched the Hon’ble Supreme Court to stay the counselling proceedings,” PhysicsWallah said in a statement. “This stay is imperative to prevent further prejudice against the aggrieved candidates and to maintain the integrity of the admission process pending the resolution of this grave matter,” it read.
Earlier on June 4, the agency announced the results of the NEET-UG 2024, in which more than 13 lakh students passed the exam. Also, 67 students got the number one rank in one go. The concern has been raised regarding the paper leaks, grace marks and discrepancies in this year’s results. The agency has denied the allegations and said that the students have been awarded grace marks.
The NEET-UG examination is for admission to medical courses at top medical colleges. The total mark for this exam is 720, out of which each question carries four marks.
