Pracchi Desai Reveals Directors Chose ‘In-house Actors’ Over Her: ‘Don’t Think I’m Good At…’ | Exclusive
Pracchi Desai says being picky has led filmmakers to not approach her at times. She also reveals receiving 'absurd answers' from them on reaching out for work.

Pracchi Desai began her acting career back in 2006 with the hit television show, Kasamh Se. Two years later, she made her Bollywood debut with Rock On and despite working in a bunch of films – some of which went on to do quite well commercially – she has been extremely selective about work, a complaint her audiences have often had with her.

While she admits to have always been ‘choosy’, in an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, she reveals that she is more comfortable turning down offers today. The actor, who will next be seen in Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout on Zee5, tells us, “Since I don’t do a lot of work, people know that I might say a no to them and so, they’re prepared. It’s not like I’m under any pressure to say a yes and they don’t expect a definite yes from me either.”

For Pracchi, being out of sight and out of mind has never been a matter of concern. However, over the years, because of her ‘picky’ behaviour, she has also borne the brunt of many makers not approaching her. “That can sometimes also not work in my favour because filmmakers think that I might not be interested in playing certain kinds of parts, which had happened to me at one point. They didn’t bring such roles or scripts to me. Now, things have changed and I’m doing different things on OTT and so, they know that I’m absolutely open to listening to anything,” she says.

In a career spanning 18 years, however, Pracchi has often tried to reach out to filmmakers she admires to get work but that didn’t come to fruition either. “I tried it. It never worked for me. I don’t think I’m good at that game. But yes, whenever I meet a filmmaker whose work I like, I make sure that I tell them that I loved their film. At one point, I know that everybody was reaching out to certain directors and saying that they would want to work with them. I did that too but I think it needed to happen in a little more organic and genuine way,” she recalls.

The Bol Bachchan and Azhar actor goes on to reveal that calling up filmmakers often led to ‘absurd’ responses from them and eventually, the roles she wanted to play went to bigger stars with more clout. “I shouldn’t have to reach out to filmmakers for work just because it’s my job to act. I understood that over time. I also learnt it from their absurd answers and I got plenty of them. Sometimes, I was told that their films only feature their in-house actors and at other times, they needed a star of a certain level to play a part. That’s when I realised that it’s not my game,” Pracchi says candidly.
