40 mins: John Stiven Mendoza Valencia looked like he was through on the goal but Roger Johnson was alert to the danger. He slid in to clear the ball away in no time to avert the possible goal scoring opportunity for Chennaiyin FC.

6:35pm: After their win against FC Pune City, Chennaiyin had a horror show. They went on a 4 match winless streak, losing 3 out of the next 4 and it looked like all was over for the Chennaiyin fans. Materazzi had to take all the drastic steps which he could have taken and it payed off. Chennaiyin won 3 in a row; scoring 11 goals and conceding just 1. Mendoza scored 5 while Jeje scored 3 out of the 11 goals scored by Chennaiyin in the last 3 matches. Now, they are on the brink of qualifying for the semi-finals for the second successive time.
Chennaiyin FC need only a draw to qualify for the semis as they take on FC pune City in the penultimate game of the Indian Super League season 2 Shree at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium in Pune on Saturday.
A win for Pune will mean that Chennaiyin FC will also not make it to the top four. That in turn will seal the deal for NorthEast United who are currently placed fourth on the league table.
