London: Alan Pardew's Crystal Palace routed his former club Newcastle 5-1 in the Premier League despite going an early goal down Saturday to increase the pressure on manager Steve McClaren after another abject display by the visitors.

Papiss Cisse put Newcastle in the 10th minute but the visitors collapsed defensively to go 3-1 down by halftime, with James McArthur, Yannick Bolasie and Wilfried Zaha scoring. Bolasie and McArthur both added a second goal in the second half as Newcastle offered little resistance.

Pardew left Newcastle for Palace in January and the two clubs have moved in opposite directions ever since. Palace is sixth in the standings while Newcastle is 19th with McClaren already under growing scrutiny following a 3-0 loss to Leicester last weekend.

Sunderland moved out of the relegation zone after scoring two late goals to beat 10-man Stoke 2-0.

Ryan Shawcross was sent off in the 47th minute for a second yellow card and the Black Cats finally took advantage through Patrick van Aanholt's 25-yard shot in the 82nd.

Two minutes later, Duncan Watmore added a second. He broke free down the right and drilled a low shot inside the far post.

Sunderland secured their first back-to-back victories of the season, signaling that new manager Sam Allardyce is making progress in turning things around.

Midtable Stoke have 19 points from 14 matches.
