Cristiano Ronaldo’s former Manchester United teammate Wes Brown has hinted at the Ballon d’Or winner’s potential return to Old Trafford. One of the greatest-ever players to don the Manchester United shirt, Ronaldo was one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s key players during the club’s golden era. A lot has changed in recent years with fans witnessing Ronaldo leave the English side after two seasons in his second stint. His contract was terminated in 2022 after the Portugal icon gave a bombshell interview. Now, Ronaldo’s former Manchester United teammate Brown has suggested that the Portuguese legend could return to Old Trafford one more time. “I think he could return to try and make amends for the sour ending,” Wes Brown said to BoyleSports, as per multiple outlets.
Hurtling towards the age of 40, Ronaldo continues to be one of the top footballers in the world. He announced his move to the Saudi Pro League after the conclusion of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. With things ending badly between Manchester United and the player, Brown talked about how it disappointed all the fans. “Obviously when he left the second time we were all disappointed because he had been one of United’s best-ever players. It was disappointing how it ended,” he said in the interview.
Brown also highlighted Ronaldo’s stellar performance following his return to the Premier League. The Portuguese icon was the third-highest scorer in the league behind Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min with 18 goals. Speaking about his performances, Brown added, “Even in his first season back at the club he scored over 20 goals. I think the exit was a bit over the top but for him to come back in some way. I’d love it.”
Ronaldo left Juventus for Manchester United in the 2021/22 season. Fans were excited to see the star footballer return to his former club. Despite Ronaldo’s homecoming, Manchester United failed to win a piece of silverware in the Portugal icon’s presence. With Erik ten Hag taking over management in the summer of 2022, Ronaldo’s performances dipped a lot. Eventually, Ronaldo’s departure was announced towards the year’s end.
Erik ten Hag was soon able to make amendments, leading Manchester United to their first title in six years after lifting the Carabao Cup. They recently won the FA Cup against Manchester City and are looking to challenge for the Premier League title this season.
