A genius swap deal from Manchester United could see their right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka end up at Crystal Place, making way for Michael Olise’s arrival at Old Trafford. The January transfer window has resulted in United actively preparing to kickstart their spending spree. According to The Daily Star, the Red Devils have ‘earmarked’ Olise amongst a lineup of other targets in this transfer window. It is one of the primary reasons why United were happy to extend Bissaka’s contract by an extra year. The extension stops other clubs from poaching their 26-year-old defender for free in the summer. It also puts United in a stronger position to pursue the Crystal Palace winger.
Crystal Palace winger Olise has been on Manchester United’s radar as one of the primary attacking options to reinforce their club. Olise initially missed the first few months of Premier League action due to an injury but soon recovered and returned to the club in stellar form. In the nine games Olise has played this season, he netted five goals. This has established the forward as one of Crystal Palace coach Roy Hodgson’s key players. His recent performances have, unsurprisingly, caught the attention of some top Premier League clubs including the likes of United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho could soon be moving out of the club on a loan deal in the ongoing transfer window. As per Express, Borussia Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed that the German side was in talks to sign the England international on loan. This would result in United requiring a replacement winger for their forward, explaining their pursuit of Olise. The French international recently signed a new four-year contract with Crystal Palace. His previous contract included a lowly release clause of £35million but the new deal could be nearer to double the old figure. Hence, United will be looking to cash in on their right-back, offering Palace a ‘cash-plus-player’ package at the end of the season.
Wan-Bissaka’s contract extension ties him to the club until 2025. However, there are no guarantees that the player will be given another deal once his contract expires. A move to his former club in Crystal Palace just might be his best bet as of now. The wing-back is well regarded at Selhurst Park, as he came through the club’s academy ranks before moving to Old Trafford in 2019. This can be a good deal for both Bissaka and Manchester United as the latter will end up saving some much-needed cash on Olise.
