'No Chance': Sir Alex Ferguson Takes Sly Dig at Tottenham's Chances of Winning the Premier League

Under Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham may have had an impressive run in the Premier League so far this season but it seems to have not been able to impress Sir Alex Ferguson much.

The legendary Scottish manager issued a hilarious response when asked about Tottenham’s prospects of winning the Premier League title. Ferguson’s reply was a categorical “No,” when asked whether Tottenham would ever win the Premier League. “1961 was the last time they won it. That’s a long time. The proposition today with Liverpool and Man City being so powerful in the Premier League. Even for United now, we’re having to fight,” the former Manchester United manager told Sky Sports.

When it was suggested that Tottenham are more likely to win the Premier League than Manchester United, Alex Ferguson responded by saying, “No chance”.

Alex Ferguson won the Premier League title 13 times as Manchester United manager. He retired in 2013.

Meanwhile, Tottenham lifted the Premier League trophy last time back in the 1960-61 campaign, with Bill Nicholson handling the managerial duties of the Lilywhites.

Tottenham were atop the Premier League points table in October last year but the London-based outfit now find themselves at the fourth spot in the standings. Having played 24 matches so far, Ange Postecoglou’s men have collected 47 points.

In their last match, Tottenham scored a last-gasp winner to claim all three points against Brighton in the Premier League. Spurs’ Brennan Johnson found the back of the net in the dying minutes of the injury time to complete his side’s comeback.

The win widened the gap between Tottenham and Manchester United who now have 41 points to their name in the Premier League. The Red Devils, placed sixth in the Premier League standings, claimed a thrilling win in their last match against Aston Villa. Playing at Villa Park, the visitors scored in the 86th minute to earn a win against Unai Emery’s men.

Midfielder Scott McTominay’s late header guided Manchester United to their third consecutive Premier League victory. Rasmus Hojlund scored the opening goal of the night in the 17th minute. Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz equalised in the 67th minute but his goal, eventually, proved to be inconsequential.
