The row between Paul van Ass and Hockey India doesn't look like resolving anytime soon as the disgruntled coach came out with the mails he has sent to Sports Authority of India (SAI) after the Special Committee constituted by Hockey India said on Saturday that the Dutchman "is not responding."
The mails Van Ass has shared with IBNLive are addressed to SAI Executive Director (Teams), Sudhir Setia, and were sent by him on July 21 and 22. However, the HI committee headed by Harbinder Singh told reporters that "there is no question of Van Ass returning because he isn't responding."
That leaves a question mark hanging over the versions of both the parties after HI president Narinder Batra earlier showed confirmed return tickets issued in the name of Van Ass after the coach said he hasn't been issued any tickets.
Also it leaves everyone concerned to wonder if there is also a communication gap between SAI and HI.
Van Ass, who hasn't returned to India after a public spat with HI president Narinder Batra during the Hockey World League semis, mentions in the mail to Setia that "On Friday July 10th Roelant Oltmans had a meeting with Dr Batra from Hockey India where he was told to tell me that I was not welcome anymore."
The mail further says that Oltmans had a meeting with HI CEO Elena Norman discussing Van Ass's dismissal.
"On Tuesday July 14 Roelant Oltmans had a meeting with Elena Norman, CEO of Hockey India, where they discussed my dismissal. The mail from Oltmans to me says that if I come to India, I have to sit at SAI office for a month. This if I want to fulfil my month notice. It was clear that I was not supposed to be the trainer of the camp in Shilaroo. Roelant Oltmans was already asked to fill in my place," Van Ass said in the mail to SAI.
The Dutchman went on to mention in the mail that contact about this development has already been established between SAI and HI.
"In the mail from July 14th from Oltmans to me, Roelant also mentioned that contact has been made between Hockey India and SAI, and that a formal letter of resignation
will be sent to me in the coming days."
Van Ass claims that SAI did not respond to his mail, after which he decided to send a reminder to Setia.
"Can you please confirm that you received my explanation and the mails back and forth from Roelant Oltmans to me? (sent yesterday to you). The correspondence started July 13th and I sent you also a mail from July 14th.
"I have many more mails concerning the matter that Oltmans had to let me officially know by Mr. Batra, that I was fired! He certainly would not do that on his own," Van Ass wrote in his reminder.
The Dutchman has apparently already requested SAI to complete his 'wrap up' from the job.
"Now you have officially fired me in your function as Technical director of Hockey India, I can also ask you to take care of the official wrap up," he wrote.
