Taylor Swift is undoubtedly the singer sensation who has enthralled millions of hearts with her catchy songs and phenomenal concerts. Owing to her several achievements this year, the American singer has been named the “Person Of The Year” by Time Magazine but there was a controversy in her career that could have proved fatal. At least that’s what the pop singer believes. In the latest cover story for Time, Taylor Swift contemplated how her conflict with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in 2016 affected her “mentally and could have been the end of her successful career.”
In conversation with Time Magazine, Taylor Swift revealed that the phase was like a “career death” which took a toll on her psychologically. She stated, “Make no mistake — my career was taken away from me.” Taylor Swift added, “I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard.”
The popular controversy began in 2016 when Kanye West released the song Famous with the lyrics “that bitch” which allegedly referred to Taylor. The latter, according to Kanye, had granted him permission to use the phrase in his song. Taylor, on the other hand, had vehemently denied this. Kim Kardashian, the then-wife of Kanye, later released an audio in which she called Taylor a “snake.” According to sources, Taylor appeared to approve Kanye’s words for the song in the recording. Recalling the incident, Taylor Swift told Time, “You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar.”
Taylor Swift noted that after the incident, she made sure to be grateful for all her achievements, as she had seen them get away previously. She concluded that it is pointless to try to always speak against enemies since “Trash takes itself out every single time.”
The top singer spent the year touring around the country on her Eras Tour, showcasing the music she made throughout the years and smashing ticket sales records. The Eras Tour, which will continue in 2024 across Asia, Australia, Europe, and the United States, Recently, the music streaming platform Spotify announced that the US pop sensation was the most-played artist in 2023.
