Can You Appeal an Activision Ban?
Yes, you can submit an appeal if your account has been banned. However, it is up to Activision whether or not they accept your appeal. Serious and/or repeated account violations are unlikely to be overturned. Activision generally will only overturn a ban if it is due to unauthorized activity. However, it is possible that you can appeal minor offenses, such as accidental glitch exploitation or slightly toxic behaviour that has no previous offenses.
Appealing an Activision Ban
Go to https://support.activision.com/ban-appeal in a web browser. You can use any web browser on your Mac, PC, or mobile device. You can also try contacting Activision by phone. The number to call is 1 (310)-255-2000
Log in to your Activision account. To do so, click Log in to Continue and then log in with the email address and password associated with your Activision account. Alternatively, you can click one of the icons at the bottom to log in with your PlayStation, Xbox, Battle.net, or Steam account, if you were banned on one of those platforms.
Read the statement and click Continue. The information on screen provides information about Activision’s Security and Enforcement policy and what to do if you suspect your account has been hacked. Read the information and click Continue at the bottom.
Read the information and click AGREE AND CONTINUE. The information on screen informs you that all account infractions are the account holder’s responsibility, no matter who was playing at the time. Your ban will only be overturned if it is determined the infraction is due to unauthorized activity. Click Agree and Continue at the bottom to continue. Temporary bans, shadowbans, and accounts under review cannot be appealed.
Write a letter of appeal. Write a detailed and polite letter of appeal. Make sure you include your account name, date the ban occurred, and why you think your account shouldn’t be banned. Be sure to include any evidence to support your case.
Click Submit. This will submit your appeal. Activision will contact you when an investigation is complete and let you know their decision. It can take anywhere from a few days to a few months for them to respond. Be patient. Avoid submitting more appeals until you have heard a response.
Writing a Letter of Appeal
Write a letter of appeal. When writing a letter of appeal, make sure you are polite and respectful. Using foul language or blaming Activision will not help you. If you are in the wrong, be honest and acknowledge your mistake and what you have learned. Be sure to include the following information in your letter of appeal: Your Activision ID The email address associated with your Activision account. The date and time the ban happened. The game title you were banned from. The platform or game console you were banned from. The reason you were banned. A polite explanation of your version of what happened. A reason why you think your account shouldn’t be banned. Evidence to back up your claim.
After Submitting an Appeal
Submitting an appeal will result in one of three outcomes. You’ll need to wait for a response. That can take weeks or even months. The final result will be one of the following: Appeal accepted: If your appeal is accepted, your ban will be overturned and you will be allowed to play again. However, you need to be extra careful to follow the rules and not repeat any violations. Repeated violations will be less likely to be overturned. Appeal Rejected: If your appeal is rejected, then your ban still stands. You cannot regain access to your account and it is unlikely there is anything you can do to regain access. You can try to create a new account, but you will need to be careful to follow the rules and not repeat any violations. Repeated violations may result in your IP address getting banned, or getting banned from purchasing future Activision games. Further investigation needed: If Activision replies and informs you that they need to investigate further, they may ask you to provide further evidence. You will need to continue to be polite and provide whatever they request.
How You Get Banned
Using unauthorized software or devices . This can include any unauthorized mods, cheat software, hacks, and unauthorized peripherals. Anything that can be used to gain an unfair advantage or manipulate the game data. This can include aimbots, trainers, and hacks that manipulate your stats or leaderboards. This can also include external devices, such as modded controllers, IP flooders, lag switches, as well as hardware spoofing software.
Using pirated software. Using illegally obtained versions of the game or illegally obtained downloadable or add-on content or locked content may result in a permanent ban. Further more, you may be reported to your digital distribution platform, such as PlayStation, Xbox, Battle.net, or Steam.
Cheating. In addition to using authorized software for the purpose of cheating, this can also include coluding with other players to boost stats, levels, or gaining locked content, as well as exploiting bugs and glitches to gain an unfair advantage over other players.
Griefing. This generally involves engaging in unsportsmanlike conduct, or disruptive behavior to keep others from enjoying the game as intended.
Offensive behaviour. This can include aggressive or offensive language, hate speech, durogatory comments, cyberbullying, and more.
Decompiling or reverse engineering the game. Trying to reverse engineer the game or game data, or decompile the game code is violation of the terms of service.
False reporting. This is using the in-game reporting system to knowingly make false reports or mass-report legitimate users.
Types of Bans
Limited Matchmaking. Limited matchmaking (also known as a ”Shadowban”) is when your account is put into a limited matchmaking state for online games. You can only be paired with other players that are in a limited matchmaking state. This limits the number of players you can play with and places you up against other players who have engaged in hacking, cheating, or toxic behaviour.
Temporary ban. A temporary ban is when you have been banned from playing for a limited amount of time. This can be anywhere from 48 hours to 2 weeks or longer. The time you are banned depends the severity of the infraction. Activision says they do not appeal temporary bans. However, you can still try to appeal your suspension.
Permanent ban. A permanent ban is when you have been banned from playing the game indefinitely. This is generally reserved for severe or repeated infractions. In some cases permanent bans may apply across titles, including past, present, and future Call of Duty games. In some cases, you may even be banned from purchasing a Call of Duty game in the future.
