How to Change Valve Cover Gaskets
Have you ever needed to change your valve cover gasket? Luckily, there is a simple guide that will assist you in doing so.
Steps

Pull all wires and vacuum hoses away from the valve cover top.

Make sure to remember where all of the hoses and vacuum hoses were connected. Some people like to snap a picture before they disconnect the wires and hoses.

Unbolt the bolts that hold the valve cover down with a ⁄4 inch (0.6 cm) drive ratchet.

Lift the valve cover carefully to contain debris from falling into valves and springs.

Pull off old gasket and clean the valve cover in degreaser or hot soapy water. You could use a wire brush and a 5 gallon (18.9 L) bucket.Change Valve Cover Gaskets Step 5Bullet1.jpg

Use a dab and a permatex every 6 inches (15.2 cm) on the valve cover groove. Gently seat the new gasket in its groove and let it sit for about 10 minutes.

Gently move the valve cover back in position. Tighten the bolts that hold the valve cover down to the torque specification.

Reconnect all the hoses and wires that were disconnected.

What's your reaction?
