In addition to the starter Pokémon that you get into the beginning of the game, Pokémon X and Y also allows you to get one of the Kanto starter Pokémon - Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Read this article to find out how you can do so.
Get to the point in the game where you go to Lumiose City for the first time.
Go west to the Sycamore Pokémon Lab and go inside.
Take the elevator up to the 3rd floor.
You'll find Professor Sycamore, who will challenge you to a battle. He uses Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.
Beat him, and he'll let you have one of the starters. You only get one per file, so pick carefully.
