A birthday bash ended in tragedy Sunday afternoon when two B.Tech students died on the spot as their car crashed into a truck on the Outer Ring Road.
The victims, identified as 20-year-olds Hima Bindu and Sravani, were returning to Hyderabad from Mount Opera along with three others through the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway.
Birthday girl Prathibha Bharathi (20), Srinivas (22) and car driver Ramesh were hospitalised with serious injuries. Ramesh and Prathibha’s condition is said to be critical while Srinivas is stable. All the youngsters were studying in TKR college of Engineering and Technology, Meerpet and were residents of Nandanavanam.
Prathiba had thrown the birthday party at Mount Opera and all of them had hired an Indica car to go there. They partied till the early hours of Sunday and later went to the Sanghi temple to offer prayers.
As they were returning home around 2.30 p.m., their car (AP22 TV 1378) hit a truck (AP 16 TY 4657) near Gandicheruvu on National Highway 5. “The accident took place when the truck was going to Gandicheruvu. It was navigating a curve on the main road of the ORR when Ramesh, who was driving the car, lost control and crashed into the truck.
Passersby who witnessed the mishap alerted the emergency medical services, who rushed all of them to the hospital while also alerting the police. Cops shifted the deceased to Osmania General Hospital for postmortem. The injured were shifted to a private hospital.
