Srinagar: Two people, including a BSF personnel and a fidayeen were killed and 20 others wounded when a suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden car into a paramilitary vehicle in Srinagar.

The suicide bomber rammed his Maruti car into the vehicle carrying about 40-45 personnel at Peerbagh on the heavily-guarded Srinagar-Airport road on Tuesday evening, a BSF spokesman said.

This is the same road that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is to take when he arrives in Srinagar for the two-day Round Table Conference with the separatists and other political parties on Wednesday.

The spokesperson confirmed that one BSF jawan was killed and ten others wounded - some of them critically - in the attack. However, sources said two BSF men and the suicide attacker were killed and 20 others wounded in the explosion.

The Hizbul Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The fact that the terror attack took place very close to Hurriyat Conference Chief Syed Shah Geelani's residence has raised questions about the security arrangement for the forthcoming round table conference.
