New Delhi/Chennai: A week after former telecom minister A Raja's residences were raided in connection with 2G spectrum scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday launched a nationwide raid on homes and offices of other alleged players involved in the scam.
CBI officials carried out raids at the offices and residence of corporate lobbyist Nira Radia in Delhi while her associate and former TRAI Chairman Pradeep Baijal's residence in Noida was also searched.
In all 34 places, 27 in Tamil Nadu and seven in Delhi, were raided. Out of the 27 places raided in Tamil Nadu 16 were in Chennai alone. The CBI claimed that many incriminating documents have been seized during the raids.
Raids were also conducted on Raja's chartered accountant Ganpati Subramanium, Raja's elder brother and Anna University dean Dr A Ramachandran and hawala operator Mahesh Jain.
They were listed in Raja's diary found during raids last week. Pro-LTTE magazine Nakeeran's associate editor Kamraj has been taken into custody after the raids.
The CBI is also questioning directors of nearly a dozen Tamil Nadu-based companies.
"CBI today has conducted searches at the residential and official premises of several companies, their directors and the former chairman of TRAI as the follow-up of the searches conducted on 8th Dec, 2010 in connection with the ongoing investigation into the 2G scam .the searches were conducted in 34 places in Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Noida. Several incriminating documents have been seized during the searches and the searches are still on," said CBI DIG Vineeta Thakur in New Delhi.
Here is the list of people raided: A Ramachandran, Chinayapan Krishnamurthy, T Silvarajon, A Kamras, Rev Father Jagath Gasper Raj, C Sathyanarayanan, Valavan, MS Shaqir, Md Hassan, Mahesh Jain, JG Exports, Alok Jain and Boby.
List of companies raided: Greenhouse Promoters, Equuas Estates, Kadir Kamang Trading, Shivam Trading, Kowai Shelters, AGM Investment and Finance Limited, Welcome Communication, Zenim Exim Venture, Shelly Thermo Plastic, JG Exports (three branches in Chennai), Aiyappa Enterprises, Shelley Road Systems.
