42 bonded labourers rescued

MADURAI: Rural police, on Sunday, rescued 42 bonded labourers who were subjected to torture by snack factory owners in three north Indian states.Police personnel also arrested 11 persons, including snack company owners and brokers, who recruited boys from various southern districts  like Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Tiruchy, Dindigul and Theni.  Out of the 42 rescued bonded labourers, one hails from Kerala and another from Karnataka, said Asra Garg, the Superintendent of Police, Madurai district. All these bonded labourers were forced to work at snack companies in Maharashtra, Agra and Odisha, said the SP. He had formed a special team to investigate the menace of  bonded labourer.
