ADILABAD: Residents of about 400 habitations in five agency mandals under the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Utnoor division in Adilabad district are likely be face drinking water crisis this summer. Thanks to lack of coordination between the Rural Water Supply (RWS) and Forest departments, the project under National Rural Drinking Water Programme is lagging behind its schedule ever since it commenced in Oct 2010.In an attempt to control deaths caused due to contaminated drinking water in the Agency, the central government released `78 crore in Oct 2010 to provide purified drinking water from the Komaram Bheem project to 400 habitations in the mandals of Jainoor, Narnoor, Utnoor, Kerameri and Sirpur (U) mandals. The project was aimed for completion before summer this year. However, the pipeline laying works are yet to commence due to lack of coordination between the RWS and Forest department. It is learnt that the forest department did not give required permissions to take up the works. Similarly, the RWS department also failed to pursue the issue with the officials after submitting an official communication for these works, a few months ago. If completed, about one lakh people living in the five mandals will be benefited and get relieved from the seasonal diseases.
