Chennai: A 53-year-old businessman, Malleshwara Rao, died after falling from a height of over 100-feet while he was parasailing at the CODISSA grounds near Coimbatore airport on Sunday.
The organisers had reportedly failed to fasten Rao's belt to his paragliding gear.
A video recorded by an onlooker showed that within 15 seconds of Rao being lifted up in the air, two persons on the ground raised an alarm over his belt not being fastened to the gear. He was seen struggling to cling to the rope with his hands while the crowd on the ground was seen running towards him in a desperate attempt to get hold of him.
After he fell off the parachute, he was rushed to a local hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
The police have booked a case against the organisers.
This is the second person to die in western Tamil Nadu in the last two years during an adventure sport, says a report in “The Hindu".
On January 31, 2014, Ramya, a 26-year-old from Bengaluru, fell from a height of about 10,000 feet after her parachute malfunctioned during a jump at Omalur in Salem District.
