In a freak accident, a five-year-old boy died of electric shock when an iron rod, that had touched an overhead live electric wire, accidentally fell on him on Tuesday evening. A man, who had accidentally dro-pped the rod, miraculously escaped.
Police said the mishap occurred when Narayanan, a resident of Kalaignar Nagar in Sathangadu, was transporting iron rods from the ground floor of his house to the floor above, where he lived. The victim, N Praveen, a kindergarten student who lived a couple of streets away, was visiting his aunt, Revathi, who resided in Nara-yanan’s house as a tenant.
The boy was fascinated by the iron rods being transported upstairs and followed Narayanan. While passing through the stairs with the iron rod, Narayanan reportedly touched an overhead live wire. He received severe shock and reportedly dro-pped the rod, which touched Praveen. He died on the spot. Narayanan suffered burns in his palms and thighs.
The boy is the younger son of Nagarajan, a contract employee at Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited.
