A fire in a house in the Chembur area of Mumbai killed seven people early Sunday morning. The blaze reportedly broke out around 5:30 am due to a short circuit.
All the victims were asleep at the time, and the fire spread rapidly, trapping them inside. After authorities arrived, the victims were taken to the Rajawadi Hospital, but all seven were declared dead upon arrival. Local authorities are investigating the incident.
Earlier on Sunday, the Mumbai Fire Brigade reported a Level I fire. The blaze was confined to electrical wiring and installations in a ground-floor shop and also affected the upper residential floor.
According to onsite engineer Shri Kangude, the structure is a ground-plus-one building, with the ground floor used as a shop and the upper floor for residential purposes.
