THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  For the scores of hapless and sidelined sections of the society, the I-Day fete organised by Karma, the socio-cultural organisation which has proved different in its five years of existence, was indeed a unique one. Many blind, deaf and dumb and other physically challenged persons, accident victims and those suffering from chronic diseases received financial assistance during the fete, held at Valiachalai, at Ananda Nilayam Orphanage and Widow’s Home, Kuriyathi. Kitchen utensils were also donated to Ananda Nilayam on the occasion.  Renowned Tamil writer Neela Padmanabhan inaugurated the I-Day celebrations. R Raveendran Nair, chairman, Attukal Bhagavathy Temple Trust, inaugurated the fifth anniversary of Karma. R Mahadevan, president, Karma, presided.  B Sasidharan Nair, secretary, Ananda Nilayam, was honoured with a ‘ponnada’ by Neela Padmanabhan and a memento by R Raveendran Nair. Rendering of patriotic songs and cultural programmes were the other highlights of the function.  B Sasi, secretary, Ananda Nilayam, N K Gopalakrishnan, former president, P S Santosh, secretary, Karma and J P Ajith, treasurer, also spoke.
