The film is vying for the top prize at the Venice Film Festival.

Venice (Italy): After Keira Knightly, it was actors George Clooney, Tilda Swinton and Bill Murray's turn to walk the red carpet for the premiere of their film Michael Clayton at the Venice film festival over the weekend.

Set in New York City, the film focuses on a corporate law firm's attempts to settle a multimillion-dollar suit against one of its clients.

George Clooney plays a burnt out operative working for the firm who's dealing with mounting debt from gambling, a divorce and a failed business venture. And it wasn't too difficult for Clooney to look the part.

"I had still not lost the weight from Syriana completely and I’d had back and neck surgery, my head hurt and I was beat and tired, so we figured that's good actually, so we didn't make any effort to clean up. It seemed to be the right way to do it, because the trick is not to deglamourise stars in order to make it work, but change things which is not always easy to do,” said Clooney about his haggard look in the film.

Michael Clayton is vying for the top prize at the Venice Film Festival but it will be hitting the American theatres in October this year.
