BANGALORE:  The victim of the 'Miss Karavali MMS scam' was an Assistant Central Intelligence Officer (ACIO2) with the Central Intelligence Bureau (IB) and her morphed obscene photographs uploaded by her spurned lover Ashwath Gaonkar to the internet ended in her dismissal.
Sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) told Express that the victim who was appointed as ACIO on May 26 this year was terminated from service by M Dharam, the Assistant Director of Enquiries of IB, under the Central Civil Services (Temporary Services) Rules. Sources said that it was to save themselves from "embarrassment" and cited the reason of conduct of the selected officer during her studies as not being up to the mark. Now she has challenged the termination in the High Court.Meanwhile on Wednesday, the accused, Ashwath, who uploaded the morphed photos in the name of "Miss Karavali MMS" was arrested by the Cyber Crime Police of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Dharwad after the victim lodged a complaint against him two weeks ago. His two laptops, which were used for morphing her photos and the MMS and uploading the same to websites such as Google, Youtube and other social networking websites, were seized. Two mobile phones, CDs, a digital camera with memory card were also were seized from the accused.

Ashwath hails from an influential family; his father, a renowned Ayurvedic doctor, evaded police action by wielding his influence at the local level. Ashwath was into the mining business and exporting sea shells. Sources said that he has contact with a Karwar politician. It is to be mentioned that Ashwath had brought pressure on the Karwar police from many VIPs, including a retired judge, to not take action against him.

Ashwath proposed to her and the two became close afterwards. He took photographs of her while they attended parties and picnics from his mobile phone, under the guise that he was preparing an "album" of her. The accused also used to send SMSs from her phone to his. In December 2009, when she got to know that he was already married, she rejected his marriage proposal and asked him to delete her photographs and the SMSs sent to his mobile, police said.
