BANGALORE: The residents of Ramamurthynagar Ward have been demanding the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities to provide basic infrastructure at various localities of the ward.Come summer, the residents have to struggle for water since most of the areas of Ramamurthy Nagar Ward have to depend on borewells for water. Kalkere, K Channasandra, Akshyanagara, Dr Ambedkar Nagar, Manjunath Layout, Chandravadana Layout, Raghavendra Extension, M Visveswaraiah Nagar, Kaudenahalli are the important localities of Ramamurthynagar Ward.It is not that there is no development at all in this ward. The BBMP had taken up asphalting of many roads in the ward. For example, many cross roads at Srinivasa Layout were asphalted. “We are happy with the BBMP’s initiative to asphalt these roads. The BBMP has taken measures to supply borewell water. As of now, there is no shortage for water,’’ said V Venkatamuni, a businessman of Srinivasa Layout. However, the residents of Sir Vivesvarayanagar complain that the BBMP had not taken up any development works at the locality. They complain about the acute shortage of water and lack of underground drainage facility. “The BBMP has been supplying borewell water to a few localities. We have been facing issues due to shortage of water. The authorities have not taken any measures to supply water to the residents of 1st ‘A’ Main and other areas,’’ said B N Armugam, president, Sir M Vivesvaraya Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association. The residents allege that civil workers are not clearing the garbage. The open drains are not cleaned on regular basis despite complaints lodged with BBMP health inspector and environment engineer. The haphazard parking of vehicles on Kalkere Main Road has become a nuisance. A driving training school has been parking a minimum of three vehicles near 4th Cross. “Most of the cross roads are yet to be asphalted in this area. The Sunday Market near Horamavu Main Road is yet to be shifted to Shanthi Layout despite assurance from MLA Nandish Reddy and Corporator M Revanna,’’ said Armugam. The residents want the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) to shift an electric transformer that has been obstructing the movement of vehicles on the 4th ‘A’ Main Road. ‘’This demand has been pending for the last three years. MLA Nandish Reddy has even written a letter to the Bescom authorities but in vain,’’ said Armugam. The construction of a church building became to a standstill due to the reasons best known to the people concerned but the stagnated water in the ditch dug up for foundation has become a breeding place for mosquitoes. ‘’We hope the BBMP authorities to do something to save the residents from the mosquito menace,’’ he said. However, Corporator M Revanna was not available for comment.
