While presenting the Budget, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had said the government would take steps to simplify filing tax returns as part of efforts to widen the tax net. Currently, only a small number of Indians pay income tax. He had also spoken about introducing a single page form for those with income up to Rs 5 lakh.
