HYDERABAD: Raising concerns at some objectionable scenes in the Amitabh Bacchan starrer Aarakshan, which is scheduled to be released on Friday, senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao on Wednesday wrote to the Central Board of Film Certification asking them to delete the controversial portions. In a letter to the chairperson of the board Leela Samson, Rao said that Aarakshan (meaning reservation), which is based on the caste and reservation system in education in India, shows OBCs in a poor light. Rao, who is also the convener of Parliamentary Forum of OBC MPs, said that the movie, especially the title sequence, depicts reservation as if it is a big danger. “It is shown (in the movie) again and again that the Supreme Court’s judgment on Mandal Commission giving reservation of 27 per cent to OBCs is not correct. This is indirect criticism of the apex court and may also be seen as contempt of court,” he wrote. He added that the film depicts OBC students having drinking sessions on the terrace, indirectly saying that they are not interested in studies and are taking advantage of the reservation. He opined that the film would hurt the sentiments of the OBC community and may even lead to problems in the screening of the film.
