BANGALORE: The Aasare programme, envisaged to provide shelter to those who were displaced in the 2009 floods in the state, would be completed by October this year, Housing Minister V Somanna informed here on Friday.Addressing a press conference here, the minister informed that under the programme, which is being implemented in over 289 perennially flood affected areas spread over 17 districts, as many as 39,801 houses have been completed and handed over to the beneficiaries.Stating that in some villages in Gadag and Dharwad districts few of the beneficiaries are not willing to move to the rehabilitated residential colonies where sanitation and drinking water works are still to be completed, he said that the state government would release an additional grant of `3,000 to each unit for the purpose. He said that under the programme, the state is constructing as many as 58,655 houses in 17 districts and the entire scheme would be declared closed by October.Referring to media reports that in some villages the houses built began developing cracks, he said an inquiry has been ordered into the incidents and has sought a report from the district administration on the matter. “Action would be initiated against those who would be found guilty for the sub-standard works done,” Somanna said.Attributing the delay to difficulty in procuring building materials and labour shortage, he said the government has managed to complete the scheme thanks to the co-operation from all sections of the society.
