PUDUCHERRY: Police are still probing whether a case of abetment of suicide may be registered against the principal of the Pondicherry Co-operative union run Teacher Training Institute here following the suicide of a  student a few days ago. In the suicide note, the student, Meenakshi (23), blamed the principal for her extreme act as he had scolded her in class. She committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan after leaving behind the note, in which she also blamed the principal for showing partiality.Police had registered a case under Sec 174 Cr P C earlier. But a top police official said they may alter it to Section 306 IPC after their investigations.The authorities of the institute, meanwhile, said they were contemplating departmental action against the Principal, Desingu. On Friday, Meenakshi’s relatives and parents refused to accept her body after post-mortem.The students of the institute staged a road blockade near the government hospital demanding action against the principal.  They also called on CM N Rangasamy and sought his intervention to ensure action was taken against the principal. He said that he would look into the matter. The relatives came forward to accept the body after this.Motorcycle Thief  ArrestedThe Grand Bazaar police on Friday arrested Neelakantan (19) from Kancheepuram for stealing nine motorcycles from various parts of Puducherry recently.SSP (Law and order) V J Chandran, said a police party were on a routine check at Anna Salai when they noticed a person riding a motorcycle without a number plate. He was stopped and upon being questioned, he revealed that it was a stolen vehicle. Further, he went on to admit that he had stolen eight more motorcycles.In a separate incident, Praveen Kumar from Madurai, who was employed at a lodge, was arrested for stealing a motorcycle, 3 cellphones and watches from the lodge. Praveen Kumar had been involved in theft cases earlier too.
