THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI’s V S Sunil Kumar has demanded Speaker G Karthikeyan to take action against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for misleading the Assembly on the Travancore Titanium Products (TTP) issue.Sunil Kumar issued the Breach of Privilege notice stating that Chandy had misled the Assembly by claiming that the Opposition had no right to raise a demand for a CBI inquiry into the TTP issue since a case in this regard was pending before the court. The Chief Minister had made the remark during the discussion on the issue on Tuesday. Sunil Kumar said that no case in this regard was pending before the court. The Chief Minister’s statement was not true and as such, amounted to disrespect and insult the Assembly.Earlier in the day, the TTP issue made a brief appearance in the House and created a ruckus with Chandy saying that the previous LDF Government had taken no steps to launch a CBI inquiry into the issue. The LDF had in its last Cabinet meeting on February 27, 2011, recommended a departmental inquiry into the wasteful expense incurred in importing equipment for an acid recovery plant. A GO to this effect was issued on March 1.
