CUTTACK: Winding up the Orissa leg of his Jan Chetna Yatra on Monday, senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani demanded that the names of the people, who have stashed away black money in foreign banks, be made public. The Government should tell the people what measures had been taken to get the money back. Addressing an impressive gathering at Killa Grounds here in the evening before leaving for Delhi, the former deputy prime minister said the UPA Government should come out with a White Paper on the issue of black money. “When I raised the issue of black money three years back, I was criticised for raking it up for political reasons. But I was shocked when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh himself said that Advani should know the money cannot be returned while other countries have forced the banks to reveal names and have got their money back,” he said. The Switzerland Parliament has also passed a law, Restitution of Illicit Assets Act this year under which the black money can be reverted to the countries of origin. The Government should take action under the new law, he added. Terming the UPA Government as the most corrupt ever in the country, Advani said he was overwhelmed by the response to the yatra. “Everywhere I received tremendous support for the cause. This shows that the people are not only aware but also disturbed by corruption in governance and other aspects of everyday life. The events for the last two years, the 2G and other scams have angered the people. And they want concerted action to get rid of the malaise,” he said. The 84-year-old was in high spirits and urged the gathering not to give or take bribes. The senior leader, however, did not touch upon the scams and corruption issues dogging the State Government in his 20-minute speech.
