Gujarat Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday night to wish Amma on her birthday.

He would be attending the 60th birthday celebrations of 'hugging saint' Mata Amritanandamayi (Amma), to be held about 80 km from Thiruvananthapuram at her mutt near Kollam on Thursday.

Arriving by a special flight, Modi drove to the state-owned Mascot Hotel in the heart of the city and was greeted by top state leaders and party workers.

At the hotel, he walked towards the media personnel, only to disappoint everyone with just a wave of the hand. Soon, state leaders were seen attempting to breach the security cordon and reach near Modi to pay their regards.

On Thursday, he will also visit the famed Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple (the richest temple with Rs.32,000 crore in gold, coins and other assets) and also call upon the erstwhile royal family of Travancore.

Meanwhile, supporters were over enthusiastic after a vernacular newspaper carried a story on Wednesday that Modi would contest the 2014 general elections from Thiruvananthapuram and two other seats.
