Gujarat: A day after water in Mumbai's Mahim creek reportedly turned "sweet", a similar phenomenon was reported from the coastal area of Teethal in Gujarat's Valsad district.
Samples of water from the Arabian Sea collected at Teethal were sent for testing.
"The Arabian Sea water has turned a bit sweeter. Samples have been taken and sent to laboratories in Pune for testing," Valsad district development officer Indrish Vora, who tasted the "sweet" water, told PTI.
Vora said numerous people considered the phenomenon a miracle and were worshipping the water.
"Several people have been thronging the beach at Teethal and tasting and bottling the water, but there is no securty concern as yet," he said.
Vora said though detailed scientific tests would prove the actual quality of the water and the reasons for it tasting "sweet", one of the factors could be that all rivers that were flooded following heavy rains were flowing into the seas.
