New Delhi: A day after P Chidambaram replaced Shivraj Patil as the country's Home Minister, sources have told CNN-IBN that more heads are likely to roll.
Sources say Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta is likely to be removed and a new Minister of State in the Finance Ministry could be appointed to assist Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The new appointment will be made from the pool of existing ministers.
Sources say more changes are likely in the bureaucracy as well.
Meanwhile, at a press conference on Monday morning, Chidambaram said he has joined the Home Ministry only because he was asked to by the Prime Minister and in national interest. He added the government was determined to fight terror.
And in press conference held in the evening on Monday, the Chidambaram said that the government is serious about handling terror issues.
"In the last few days the Congress Working Committee and the highest decision making bodies of all political parties met in a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister. It has been decided that there will be unity of purpose in dealing with the situation," Chidambaram said.
