Ahead of Olympics, China grapples with Eng language
It seems six months is perhaps too little time to breach the language wall.

New Delhi: Beijing's 1,30,000 taxi drivers and their poor command over English is as much a problem for the Chinese government as the Tibetan protesters.

As the country prepares for the 29th Olympics, it seems that too little time left to breach the language wall.

Special methods were launched to teach the international language. Those with good driving records were also given star status.

It’s another form of vehicular problem China grapples with before the games.

Air pollution, a typical spring morning in Beijing, a deadly concoction of fog and smog envelops the city with 60,000 taxis and many more private cars on the road.

Talking about the pollution problem in China Greenpeace Campaign Director Lo Sze Ping says, "The main cause of pollution is that there has been massive developmental work going on in and around of Beijing. Its the first developing country to hold games."

Despite steps taken by the government air pollution still remains high in China.

The Chinese authorities have claimed that the pollution level in Beijing has come down by almost 13 per cent but the International Olympic Committee shares a different story.

With health concern, the pollution problem in China may force athletes to delay their arrival for the game.
