Amitabh Bachchan denies Panama links, says name may have been misused
"I don't know any of the companies referred to by the media," said Amitabh Bachchan on Panama Papers leak.

New Delhi: Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Tuesday denied any links to companies mentioned in the Panama Papers leak, saying his name may have been misused.

"I do not know any of the companies referred to by Indian Express - Sea Bulk Shipping Company Ltd, Lady Shipping Ltd, Treasure Shipping Ltd, and Tramp Shipping Ltd. I have never been a director of any of the above stated companies. It is possible that my name has been misused," he said responding to reports which alleged he has links with offshore entities in two tax havens

"I have paid all my taxes including on monies spent by me overseas. Monies that I have remitted overseas have been in compliance with law, including remittances through LRS, after paying Indian taxes. In any event the news report in Indian Express does not even suggest any illegality on my part," he further said in his statement

Bachchan's denial comes a day after the Indian Express reported that he was among the 500 Indians who were clients of the Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca which helps incorporate companies in offshore tax havens.

His daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan --who has also been named in the media expose -- has already denied any involvement, with her media adviser calling the documents "totally untrue and false."
