Andhra: 1lakh pairs of shoes in DGP office!

HYDERABAD: It now transpires that an “abnormally high stock” of about one lakh pairs of shoes is lying in the office of the Director General of Police.Reacting to a report in these columns on Friday that DGP V Dinesh Reddy instituted a probe into purchases made by Provisions & Logistics Wing when another senior officer, Umesh Kumar, was heading it, the DGP’s office said the officials are looking into whether the shoes are of “sufficient standards” and whether pecuniary loss could be avoided.The statement denied that a panel was set up to conduct any probe about purchases made between 2008 and 2011.However, it did not not rule out a probe saying that “in future, if the DGP desires, he may form a committee to go into the irregularities, if any, to safeguard the interests of the government.”
