Vishakapattinam: Termed as the Budhia Singh of Andhra Pradesh, eight-year-old Addola Sainath covered a distance of 65 kilometres on Saturday from Srinagavarapukota to Vishakapattinam in six-and-half hours to match Budhia's record.
Sainath, who hails from Srinagavarapukota in Vijayanagaram district, also wants to earn a place in the Limca Book of Records just like Budhia.
Sainath began his historic run at six in the morning from his hometown Srinagavarapukota.
"I am keen to challenge Budhia by covering 10 more kilometers. I want to bring laurels to the nation in Olympics.
I wanted to do the same job, but could not pursue it due to bad economic condition. Due to illiteracy my parents could not approach sponsors," said Sainath.
Earlier, on August 12, 2006, Sainath had covered a distance of 40 kilometres from Srinagavarapukota to Vijayanagaram in approximately three hours.
Various organisations like the Rockers' Club, Vasavi Club, Srinagavarapukota Volleyball Olympic Association supported this little champion in this adventure.
"Though I participated in many events, I could not pursue it later due to my ill health," said Sainath's father Nagaraju and then added, "From last four years I am imparting proper training to my son. He has been winning awards in various local competitions from the age of six. In an experiment he ran on August 12 for almost three hours that encouraged him to perform better. Though government is not supportive, I collected money from acquaintances to arrange his training," said Nagaraju.
Although Nagaraju could not participate in competitive sports, he is determined not to let history repeat itself with his son.
Aspiring to make Sainath an international athlete, Nagaraju has sought support from the state government.
