TRIPUNITHURA: Public anger owing to the shortage of potable water in and around Tripunithura since the past week took a new turn on Thursday with the local residents along with opposition leader of the municipal council C N Sundaran staging a dharna in front of the Executive Engineer’s office, Kerala Water Authority (KWA).“Usually, potable water is available in the public taps during the wee hours of the day,” said locals residing in Thekkumbhagam. The queue for this is very long too, with many having to wait for hours. However, since last week there has been no water from these taps and the locals here have been wandering pillar to post to get drinking water. “Now all we get from the public taps is some cracking sound and air,” they said.As the situation became unbearable, the locals from various parts of the municipality took out a protest march towards the KWA office. They were stopped by the Hill Palace Police in front of the KWA office. A few have been arrested.Following this, a meeting was held with the Executive Engineer Raju. He said that the fault was owing to a blockage in the main pipe and the work to clear it had already begun. He also assured that normalcy would be returned within next two or three days.
