TIRUCHY: DMK MLA Anitha Radhakrishnan’s personal assistant, who was also a co-accused in an attempt to murder case, escaped from the General Hospital here on Wednesday.Three prison warders, who were posted on security detail at the GH, were later suspended.R Allnath (32), son of Ramachandra Nadar of Subramaniapuram in Arumuganeri, Thoothuludi, and a close aide and PA to the former Minister and Tiruchendur MLA, was undergoing treatment at the GH for chest pain, when the incident occurred.Allnath was arrested along with Anita in connection with an attempt to murder Arumuganeri DMK Secretary K M Suresh and was lodged in the central prison here on August 11. Sources said that on Tuesday, Anitha went to Tiruchendur in connection with a separate case and returned to the prison late at night. Soon after Anitha’s return, Allnath developed chest pain and was rushed to the GH, where he was admitted at around 1.45 am. Prison warders Gabriel, Napoleon and M Ragu were posted at the hospital on security detail. On Wednesday morning, Gabriel and Napoleon went out for breakfast, leaving Ragu to remain on guard. Around 11 am, after Allnath said that he wanted to visit the restroom, the warder accompanied him to the toilet and waited outside. However, when Allnath came out of the toilet, he reportedly pushed Ragu inside another washroom and took to his heels.Ragu then gave him chase and called out to passers-by, asking them to catch Allnath, but in vain. Allnath subsequently scaled the compound wall on the northern side and though Ragu tried to hunt him down, he soon went out of sight.Meanwhile, speculations were rife that Allnath’s escape was a planned one and that he must have fled in a waiting getaway car.According to what Annal Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital deputy superintendent Dr Kanaga Sundaram told Express, the cardiac patient could not have outrun the warder for such a long distance and then scale the compound wall.On information, Inspector General of Police (Central Zone) and City Commissioner in-charge KC Mahali along with DCP (Law and Order) S Jayapandian visited the ward and conducted inquiries with the hospital staff and the warders. They also inspected the spot from where the accused allegedly escaped. Later, DIG (Prisons) Duraisamy issued suspension orders to Gabriel, Napoleon and Ragu in the evening.Interestingly, this is the fourth incident of an accused escaping from the general hospital.
